Abstract:Background: Osteomalacia, a metabolic bone disorder characterized by softening of the bones caused by defective bone mineralization secondary to inadequate amounts of available phosphorus and calcium, or because of overactive resorption of calcium from the bone as a result of hyperparathyroidism.
