Validation of the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98: Comparison With the Delirium Rating Scale and the Cognitive Test for Delirium

Abstract: The DRS-R-98, a 16-item clinician-rated scale with 13 severity items and 3 diagnostic items, was validated against the Cognitive Test for Delirium (CTD), Clinical Global Impression scale (CGI), and Delirium Rating Scale (DRS) among five diagnostic groups (N=68): delirium, dementia, depression, schizophrenia, and other. Mean and median DRS-R-98 scores significantly (P<0.001) distinguished delirium from each other group. DRS-R-98 total scores correlated highly with DRS, CTD, and CGI scores. Interrater reliabilit… Show more

“…It include three severity items and three diagnostic items, for a maximum total score of 46 points. 23 The DRS-R98 divides delirium into three categories based on severity: no delirium (total points 0), subclinical delirium (total points 1-7), and delirium (total points C 8). 24 Operative procedure All patients underwent standard OPCAB using an aortic ''no-touch'' technique, avoiding aortic side clamping and manipulation of the ascending artery to minimize the risk of stroke.…”

“…The DRS-98 (19) was administered after transplant to assess for delirium severity (20). The DRS-98 is a 16-item scale administered by a clinician to assess the severity of delirium based on all available information from patient interview, family, and nurses' reports and from neurocognitive and medical tests measures over a 24-hour period.…”

“…Other less commonly used diagnostic tools that feature different use of DSM criteria include the Organic Brain Syndrome Scale (OBS scale) [40] and the Delirium Symptom Interview (DSI) [41]. Severity scales designed for use by experts with significant professional training were the delirium Rating Scale (DRS-R-98) [42] and Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale (MDAS) [43]. Screening scale developed by nurses are the Delirium Observation Screening Scale (DOS) [44] and The NEECHAM Confusion Scale (NEECHAM) [45].…”
