Validation of the LOGOS Software Package Methods for the Numerical Simulation of Cavitational Flows

Abstract: Verification problems and numeric simulation of cavitation processes with the help of LOGOS computational fluid dynamics software are presented in this article. The Volume of Fluid method realized within LOGOS allowing numerical simulation of double-phase problems with a free surface is used for numeric simulation. Cavitation is resolved by updating the method with the account for interphase mass exchange; its condensation and evaporation parameters are calculated with the use of the Schnerr–Sauer and Zwart–Ge… Show more

“…The morfing method [33] is used to change the object's surface shape depending on the amount of ice on the surface. The LOGOS software package version number 5.3.21 was comprehensively verified and validated on well-known international tests [1,[34][35][36][37][38] and demonstrated good results. All the results given below were obtained using the LOGOS software package.…”

“…The described method was realized on the basis of the national software suite LOGOS, aimed at modeling 3D problems of computational hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and heat transfer [30][31][32]. The method efficiency is shown by examples of the numerical simulation of conjugate heat transfer problems [33,34], their grid models built of unstructured, unmatched segments.…”

“…The most popular way of taking into account cavitating flows is to use the VOF (Volume of Fluid) method [19,20] to describe the dynamics of phases and models of cavitation [21][22][23][24], which are the relation between the mass transfer velocity of the liquid and vapor phases and the flow parameters. Such an approach is used in [25][26][27][28][29][30] and provides a sufficiently accurate description of the shape of cavities and their dynamics.…”
