Validation of the Spanish version of multidimensional inventory of perfectionism in young athletes

Show more

“…Importantly, among these correlational patterns, the highest correlation was between the latter and the MIPS scale of “perceived pressure from parents”. These findings on the convergent validity of the Italian MIPS data are in line with and extend the prior literature in the sport domain [ 28 ].…”

“…These shorter versions of MIPS thus may presuppose four underlying dimensions, that is, two “personal” dimensions of perfectionism (strivings and concerns) and two “interpersonal” dimensions, referring to athletes’ perceived pressure by parents and coaches, respectively. These shorter versions have been translated in several languages and have received ample psychometric and construct (external and predictive) validity evidence, mainly in studies involving adolescent and adult athletes and adopting both traditional and more rigorous statistical approaches to data analyses [ 25 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ].…”

“…Dancers respond to the scale on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 strongly disagree to 7 strongly agree. Evidence of the validity and reliability of the respondents’ scores in different contexts has been provided by previous studies [ 40 , 41 ].…”

“…The Spanish version adapted to dancers [ 40 ] of the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale [ 7 ] was used to assess dancers’ perfectionism. The scale includes 10 items encompassing two subscales: (1) self-oriented perfectionism (e.g., “One of my goals is to be perfect in everything I do”), and (2) socially-prescribed perfectionism (e.g., “I find it difficult to meet others’ expectations of me”).…”
