Valuation of EQ-5D-5L Health States in Poland: the First EQ-VT-Based Study in Central and Eastern Europe

Abstract: ObjectiveCost-utility analyses are becoming increasingly important in Central and Eastern Europe. We aimed to develop a Polish utility tariff for EQ-5D-5L health states.MethodsFace-to-face, computer-assisted interviews were collected in a representative sample. Each respondent followed a standardised protocol to collect ten composite time trade-off and seven discrete choice experiment observations. In the Bayesian approach, several model specifications were compared based on model fit, the usability of the fin… Show more

“…The Russian version of EQ-5D-5L has been successfully validated in a group of 163 patients with spondylarthritis [34]. Recent years have witnessed attempts to carry out EQ-5D-3L valuation [35,36], which should soon result in the final publication of a country-specific Russian value set [11]. The availability of validated tools should facilitate international comparisons, which up to now have been based mainly on general economic and social indicators [37][38][39].…”

“…As there is no available Bulgarian value set yet, we used the Polish EQ-5D-5L directly measured value set to estimate EQ-5D-5L index values. At the moment of the study, it was the only EQ-5D-5L value set coming from Central and Eastern Europe [35]. EQ-5D index values illustrate societal preferences for different health states and range from -0.590 to 1.0, where negative values correspond to bad health conditions (states worse than death), and 1.0 corresponds to perfect health.…”

“…This approach has been used in several national EQ-5D-5L valuation studies. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33] The hybrid model will combine the likelihood functions of a linear model for the c-TTO data and a logit model for the DCE data. As the coefficients will be estimated from a conditional logit and expressed on a latent arbitrary utility scale, we will use a rescaled parameter θ, which will assume that the c-TTO model coefficients are proportional to DCE model coefficients.…”
