Vanadium(V) Removal from Aqueous Solutions and Real Wastewaters onto Anion Exchangers and Lewatit AF5

Abstract: Adsorption abilities of weakly (Purolite A830), weakly basic/chelating (Purolite S984), and strongly basic (Lewatit MonoPlus SR7, Purolite A400TL, Dowex PSR2, Dowex PSR3) ion exchange resins of different functional groups and microporous Lewatit AF5 without functional groups towards vanadium(V) ions were studied in batch and column systems. In the batch system, the influence of the sorbent mass (0.01–0.1 g), pH (2–10), the phase contact time (1–1440 min),and the initial concentration (5–2000 mg/L) were studied… Show more

“…The results from the investigation was resumed in Table 1, it can be observed the positively charged active groups of the resin and the anionic vanadium species favour vanadium loading onto the resin (Li et al, 2020), also, it seemed that the uptake of polyvanadate species was favoured against the presence, at higher pH values, of mononuclear vanadium species in the solution. Within all the resin dosages tested, maximum vanadium(V) uptake was yielded at pH 4, being this result in accordance which it was described in the literature (Wołowicz and Hubicki, 2022).…”

“…Wołowicz and Hubicki’s investigation showed that a macroporous weakly basic chelating ion exchange resin featuring a polyamine functionality demonstrated superior V(V) removal capabilities in both simulated and actual wastewater, outperforming other tested materials. Nevertheless, the authors addressed the chelator’s affinity for Fe(III) ions throughout the extraction process 32 . Similar findings have been reported in the literature 28 , 33 36 .…”
