“…Unambiguously, these results were found to support the hypothesis that the B. CMC1 bacteria were preserved during the encapsulation and fabrication process. Interestingly, it was discovered that a higher population and a larger enzyme effective zone size were found for the B. CMC1 -encapsulated samples, which indicated their enhanced bacterial growth and cellulase enzymatic activities compared to those of the nonencapsulated sample at the studied time point of 140 h, and it is believed that the highly biocompatible poly- p -xylylene [ 20 , 21 , 22 ] played an important role and provided an agreeable microenvironmental niche for B. CMC1 .…”

“…The switching of GF molecules from FGF-2 to BMP-2 with a conversion rate of 84.0% was estimated by comparing the normalized integrated peak intensities of the −N–H bands (3060–3452 cm –1 ) between the reinstalled BMP-2 surface and the first immobilized BMP-2 surface. With respect to the surface density (concentration) of approximately 150 ng/cm 2 BMP-2 can be estimated from a previous discovery, , and the resulting density on the surface after such cleavage and reinstallation process was calculated with a value 128 ng/cm 2 in the margin of error. The IRRAS spectra of the first immobilized BMP-2 surface are shown in Figure S3.…”

“…A home-built, dual-sourced CVD system was developed that is composed of two independent sublimation/pyrolysis zones and a deposition chamber. A CVD copolymerization mechanism (reported elsewhere) was devised using the CVD system to produce the modification layer of the copolymer, and briefly, NHS ester-substituted para -xylylene and maleimide-substituted para -xylylene (reported elsewhere , ) were utilized as starting materials and synthesized with a 10:1 deposition ratio. The deposition rates were controlled by an mass flow controller (MKS Instruments)-controlled stream of argon that each sublimation/pyrolysis source is equipped with, and in such a case, the argon was controlled at 1.0 Å/s for NHS ester-substituted para -xylylene and 0.1 Å/s for maleimide-substituted para -xylylene.…”
