“…To overcome these problems, a more preferable alternative is to use solid acid catalysts. Several potential materials, such as TS-1 [3], SAPO-11 [4], FSM-16 [5,6], ␤ [7,8], Y [9][10][11][12], ZSM-5 [13][14][15][16][17][18][19], ZSM-11 [20], TiO 2 -ZrO 2 [21], and mordenite [22], have been evaluated. Among them, an extensive study on zeolite ZSM-5 can be found.…”

“…As for molecular sieve catalysts, strong Brønsted acid, [24] medium Brønsted acid, [25,26] the neutral [27] or weakly acid silanol groups or silanol nests [28,29] have ever been reported to be effective for the Beckmann rearrangement reaction. In addition, Haber et al believed that Lewis acid sites can also been the active sites of the Beckmann rearrangement [30].…”

“…Sato et al [2] claimed that a relatively strong acid site of B 2 O 3 /SiO 2 is necessary for the formation of lactam. However, the majority of reports on the Beckmann rearrangement have suggested that weak acid sites [10,29] or medium acid sites [19] or even neutral silanols [8] are effective for the selective formation of lactam, while the strong acid sites accelerate the formation of by-products. In our study, the catalytic results from the Me/Ta-ilerite catalysts demonstrate that the lactam selectivity clearly increases due to the increase of weak and medium acid sites by metal oxide loading on the Ta-ilerite, but the catalytic efficiency of the Me/Ta-ilerite catalyst depends on the distribution of the acid sites, which is produced differently for different types of loaded metal.…”

“…These include mixed oxides such as silica-alumina [1], silica and alumina-supported boria [2,3], silica-supported tantalum oxide [4], and titania-zirconia-supported boria [5] and a variety of zeolites like Y [6,7], ZSM-5 [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15], ZSM-11 [16], ferrierite [17], TS-1 [18], and SAPO-11 [19]. The solid acid catalysts, such as silica-supported and alumina-supported boria, the highly siliceous ZSM-5 [12,14], [B]-ZSM-5 [10,13], TS-1 [11], and SAPO-11 [19] have been reported to be relatively selective for lactam. However, the catalytic lifetime of the solid catalysts is short and problems to solve in the vapor phase Beckmann rearrangement still remain.…”
