Partindo do princípio de que a tentativa e o suicídio são violências complexas e multifatoriais, faz-se necessária a aquisição de conhecimentos das situações que os influenciam, para se ter uma melhor compreensão do problema de saúde pública, diante dos agravos e riscos em suas ocorrências no nível da coletividade. O objetivo aqui é analisar artigos publicados entre 2018 e 2020, para descrever o perfil epidemiológico dos dados de tentativa e suicídio entre a população adolescente. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, o qual utilizou a revisão narrativa como aporte metodológico para a observação de fatores relacionados ao suicídio na adolescência, e que confirma a “máxima” de que a tentativa e o suicídio não se dão por uma causa isolada, mas sim, por múltiplos fatores associados, como ansiedade, depressão, desesperança, violências, distúrbios com imagem corporal, entre outras. Ao todo, foram selecionados 17 artigos que descrevem, de forma sistemática, as características epidemiológicas das tentativas e do suicídio contidas nos artigos estudados.

Suicide is a significant public health concern, with one million lives lost to it every year. Suicidal ideation and attempts are markers of high risk. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative psychological impact on the population. This study aims to describe and analyze the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of patients who have received medical attention for self-harm attempts in a hospital emergency department, comparing the period before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a descriptive, retrospective study that collected data from medical records of patients who received care for self-harm attempts in the emergency department. The data included cases from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2022. In total, 529 cases of self-harm attempts were identified, of which 62.8% were female. The number of post-pandemic self-harm attempts significantly increased compared to the period before the pandemic. The most used method for self-harm was medication ingestion. This study revealed that over one-third of the participants had previously attempted suicide. Most self-harm attempts were made by women in the 10–20 or 41–50 age groups, with a history of psychiatric illness and multiple medications. The study results also highlighted an increase in self-harm attempts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: It is of vital importance to study the risk factors associated with suicidal behaviour. The purpose of this study is to analyse the presence of suicide ideation and related factors in an applied clinical environment. Method: A correlative-predictive study is conducted with a sample of 180 adult patients, 64% women, with an average age of 31.88 (SD = 14.473) at University Psychology Clinic of Complutense University of Madrid (CUP-UCM). Suicide ideation is analysed (measured by Item 9 of the BDI-II), together with its relationship with clinical diagnosis, symptoms of depression, hopelessness and a range of sociodemographic variables. Results: 31.7% of the sample had shown suicide ideation. Significant differences were found depending on: cohabitation unit, symptoms of depression, presence of hopelessness, personal history and being under pharmacological treatment. Living alone is postulated as a stable predictor of suicide ideation (with an OR of 0.403). Together with personal history, symptoms of depression and hopelessness, these factors explain 42.5% of the presence of suicide ideation (χ2(13) = 65.056; p < .001; R2 = 0.425). Conclusions: The high prevalence of suicide ideation in the clinical population and the risk factors found, confirm the importance of focusing on this phenomenon, in particular taking into account its presence within different problems beyond the diagnostic label and the significance in certain contextual factors (e.g., living alone).
