Variation of false twist on spinning process stability and resultant yarn properties in a modified ring spinning frame

Abstract: Twisting is an important process to form a continuous yarn from short fibers and to determine the structure and properties of the resultant yarn. This article reports on the effect of variation of false twist on process stability and resultant yarn quality in a modified ring spinning frame. Based on twist kinematics, three practical cases that cause twist variations in the spinning process are investigated, namely step function, rectangular function and periodic function changes in false twist. The simulation … Show more

“…With the increasing demand for novel features or improving qualities, many modifications based on ring spinning have been developed, such as sirofil, 21,22 core-spinning, 23,24 Nu-Torque, [25][26][27] etc. For producing composite yarns such as cotton/spandex or wool/ spandex yarns, the constitutive relation is typically nonlinear, 28 and large deformation 29 takes place during the spinning process.…”

“…Traditional spinning can be roughly divided into open‐end spinning and nonopen‐end spinning. [ 84 ] The principle of open‐end spinning is to form an open end by producing a breaking point at the continuous feeding sliver, and the true twist of sliver can be obtained by rotating the free end with the twister. The open‐end spinning methods include ring spinning, rotor spinning, friction spinning, eddy current spinning, electrostatic spinning, twist spinning, and pinching spinning.…”

“…This is why a false twisting device was added to impart false twist in the spinning triangle zone, that is, in the weakest point of the yarn path located immediately after the front rollers of the drafting system, to increase process stability and yarn quality. [71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83] Yilmaz has studied the characteristic properties of the yarn by integrating a false twisting device comprised of air nozzles between the drafting system and yarn guide to reduce the yarn hairiness up to an angular spindle speed of 10,000 rpm in the conventional ring spinning process (Figure 20). 71 The objective of integrating the pre-twisting device was to bind the projected fibers onto the yarn body by the swirling airflow in the nozzle.…”
