Variational Formulation of the Harris Expansion Technique

Abstract

The Harris expansion technique for calculating elastic scattering phase shifts is studied within the context of the Kohn variational principle. It is shown that Harris' method is capable of yielding upper and lower bounds for the tangent of the phase shift.
