Variations in the P‐T‐t of Deformation in a Crustal‐Scale Shear Zone in Metagranite

Abstract: The crustal-to lithospheric-scale shear zones that accommodate relative plate motions play a major role in generating seismic hazard, influencing the evolution of orogens, and controlling the distribution of ore deposits, and are fundamental in enabling plate tectonics (Cox et al., 2006; Handy et al., 2007). Understanding the time period and conditions over which such structures are active is thus vital for quantifying the rheology of the lithosphere, modeling deformation, reconstructing the tectonic evolution… Show more

“…Progressive exhumation of HP footwall material along a major normal sense shear zone has been suggested for several regions throughout the Alps (Beltrando, Lister, et al., 2010; Bucher et al., 2003; Campani, Herman, & Mancktelow, 2010; Campani, Mancktelow, et al., 2010; Cawood & Platt, 2020; Manzotti, Zucali, et al., 2014; N. Mancktelow, 1985; S. Reddy et al., 1999; S. M. Reddy et al., 2003; Ring & Merle, 1992; Wheeler et al., 2001). Although shear sense indicators are documented, the actual mechanism for generating such normal sense structural features is still unclear (e.g., Bucher et al., 2003).…”

“…The studies of metagranite and metapsammite are essential to investigation throughout the world because these formations constitute important elements of most orogenic belts, and their information provides meaningful insights related to the composition of the lower and middle crust (Okay et al 2001; Setiawan et al 2015;Cawood and Platt, 2020). Such studies indicate the process of plutonism and metamorphism of study areas from the perspective of geological structural development and geochemistry to get a knowledge of the mechanisms that contribute to the formation of orogenic belts and other geochronological processes (Cawood and ).…”
