The response of the ionospheric bottomside electron density profile parameters of the F2 layer, namely, the maximum electron density (NmF2), the maximum height of F2 layer (hmF2), and bottomside thickness (B0) parameter to the equatorial electrojet (EEJ) current is examined for a Peruvian location at the Jicamarca station (12 °S, 76.9 °W) in the South American sector. The results of the analysis show that both hmF2 and B0 increase for ~2 h before sunrise and exhibit a postsunset peak during the equinoctial and summer months. The increase in the peak height, hmF2, is observed to terminate before midday, while B0 continued to increase throughout the daytime. The apparent midday and postnoon peaks in NmF2 occur in all the seasons under study. It was demonstrated that a relationship exists between EEJ and the profile parameters hmF2 and B0 during low and moderate solar conditions. Conversely, the correlation coefficient between EEJ and NmF2 is statistically significant only during solar minimum conditions but correlates poorly, if at all, with EEJ during moderate solar activity.

The study of ionization gradient (dN/dh) profile in the description of ionospheric dynamics is not common. This is the first attempt at finding the dependence of ionization gradient, solar quiet component (Sq (B H )), and bottomside thickness parameter (B 0 ) in the African equatorial sector. Digisonde and Magnetic Data Acquisition System data collocated at an equatorial location were employed. Result was presented for sunrise (00 LT), midday (12 LT), sunset (18 LT), and midnight (00 LT) hours. The ionization gradient peak height remains unchanged at midday across all months. A percentage correlation of 93% existed in the inverse and direct linear relationship of dN/dh-B 0 at sunrise, and of Sq (B H )-B 0 at midday, respectively. Significant relationship between dN/dh and Sq (B H ) was at sunset; for other hours, the relationship is poor. The multiple linear relationship of dN/dh-Sq (B H )-B 0 parameters revealed that the dependence of dN/dh on Sq (B H ) and B 0 is highest at midday, and a model equation was presented. The dependence of dN/dh on the solar activity index (F 10.7 ) holds at all the selected hours, and distinct only at midday and midnight for the Sq (B H )-F 10.7 and B 0 -F 10.7 patterns. Both the peak ionization gradient and the height it occurs maximizes/minimizes at 18 LT/06 LT. The importance of the F region dynamo at heights above 150 km was reported.

The ionospheric numerical ionogram dataset on the Digisonde Ionogram Database (DIDBase) hosted by the Global Ionospheric Radio Observatory (GIRO) provides an important opportunity to study the bottomside ionospheric electron density profile. The study presents the description of software developed for digisonde numerical dataset that can be obtained from DIDBase. The developed DIDBase numerical data reader and cleaner named Digisonde Numeric Data (DINData) software can find missing data periods in the dataset and resequencing the date and time stamp on the dataset. The DINData software also allows users to apply settings to check the integrity of the scaled ionogram using the ionogram confidence score (CS) value. The DINData application is written in the Python programming language. The graphical user interface (GUI) of the software was developed using Kivy, a cross-platform Python GUI framework that is built on OpenGL. The Kivy framework allows the source code of the application to be packaged into various operating systems. The software currently runs on the Windows operating system and has a user-friendly graphical user interface to accept alphanumeric input entries.
