“…Varietal differences in seed germination and emergence of rice have been reported by Lee et al [26], and Adebisi et al [40]. The classification of the genotypes into separate distinct clusters could lead to increase in heterotic effect in cross progenies.…”

“…The environmental conditions in storage are very difficult to maintain and highly influenced the period of seed survival (Jyoti and Malik, 2013 temperature and relative humidity delayed seed deterioration process thereby leads to prolong viability period (Mohammadi et al, 2011). Earlier reports by Adebisi et al (2003Adebisi et al ( , 2008b, Esuruoso (2010), Adebisi and Oyekale (2005) and Oni (2012) have utilized probit modelling to predict storage life of soybean, rice, kenaf, okra, and sesame, respectively under ambient humid storage conditions. In this study, the result of PROBIT modelling showed that the seeds maintained its viability, irrespective of the storage time of a period of 240 days.…”

“…Seed germination, shoot length, seedling vigor index I and II, speed of germination, seedling dry weight, reserve mobilization, superoxide dismutase, dehydrogenase and alpha-amylase had good correlations with mean germination rate; hence they are good predictors of seed emergence in rice varieties. In general, the seed germination characters have been shown to be an excellent predictor of field emergence and seedling vigor (Egli et al 1979;Adebisi et al 2006 andAdebisi 2008) in some crop species. In rice varieties, germinationrelated characters were reported to be highly significant (Subba Rao 1996).…”
