Various techniques for oocyte recovery in an in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer program

Abstract: Oocyte recovery in an in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) program can be performed by laparoscopy or by sonography. Most IVF teams use either one or the other of these methods. In Clamart, we undertook 407 IVF attempts from September 1983 to March 1984, 225 by laparoscopy under general anesthesia, 97 by laparoscopy under local anesthesia, and 85 by sonography. Excluding the recovery techniques, all aspects of the program (ovulation monitoring, culture, and transfer) were identical in order to s… Show more

“…[ 5 ] Transvaginal oocyte recovery is the least invasive, least painful, most accurate, and simple method to collect oocytes. [ 9 10 ] Apart from the inherent characteristics of the oocyte, its quality is affected by the techniques used for oocyte retrieval. The aspirating pressure used for oocyte retrieval can affect the integrity of the oocytes.…”

“…This was followed by hMG (two ampoules/day; Neopergonal; Serono, Levallois-Perret, France) on days 6, 8 and 10 of the cycle. The hMG treatment was continued until completion of follicular maturation, as estimated by hormone levels and ultrasonographic examinations (Belaisch-Allart, Hazout, Guillet-Rosso et al 1985). As soon as a concentration of 1-1-1-5 nmol oestradiol/1 for each follicle of more than 15 mm was reached, hCG (5000 i.u.…”

“…Higher percentages of blastocysts are obtained via in vivo maturation of oocytes compare to in vitro maturation (IVM). This kind of evidence suggests that in vitro milieu is not sufficient for supporting development and early embryo competence ( 5 ). Due to the significant impact of the seasons on ovine reproductive cycle, it is not uncommon for IVM-IVF systems to endure some deficiencies in non-breeding seasons ( 6 ).…”
