Vegetation of rock clefts and ledges in the Pamir Alai Mts, Tajikistan (Middle Asia)

Abstract: The paper presents the results of phytosociological research conducted on the vegetation of rock clefts and ledges in the Pamir-Alai Mountains (Tajikistan, Middle Asia). During the field studies, done in 2010–2012, 101 phytosociological relevés were taken. Plant species were recorded according to the Braun-Blanquet cover-abundance scale. Communities of calcareous rock clefts and ledges with small soil amounts from several ranges (Zeravshan Mts, Hissar Mts, Hazratishokh Mts, Darvaz Mts, Rushan Mts and Vanch Mts… Show more

“…Newly presented syntaxa, described as order, alliance or associations, were proposed according to the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature (Weber et al 2000). While distinguishing and ranking the association, the works of Nowak et al (2014bNowak et al ( , 2014c, Valachovič et al (1997), Dimopoulos et al (1997), Ermolaeva (2007) and Hein et al (1998) were taken into account. The association concept follows Willner (2006).…”

“…Just recently, several papers concerning Tajik vegetation classification have been published (Nowak & Nobis 2012Nobis et al 2013;Nowak et al 2013aNowak et al , 2013b. Three of them are devoted to rock communities of the alpine zone from the Asperulo albiflorae-Poion relaxae alliance and the Campanuletalia incanescentis order Nowak et al 2014bNowak et al , 2014c. This vegetation is characterised by high constancy and abundance of petrophytic taxa with an Irano-Turanian distributional range.…”

“…Very recently, several papers involving vegetation classification concerning forests [20], aquatic vegetation [21], segetal vegetation [e.g. [22][23][24][25] and rock vegetation [15,26,27] have been published. Few studies, with the exception of [20] have entirely devoted to a riverine forest phytocoenosis, Populetum talassicae, which is endemic to Middle Asia and occurs in a very restricted area in the area of the Talas valley (Kyrgyzstan) and Iskanderkul (western Tajikistan).…”
