Velocimetry signal synthesis with fringen.

Abstract

An important part of velocimetry analysis the recovery of a known velocity history from simulated data signals. The fringen program synthesizes VISAR and PDV signals, given a specified velocity history, using exact formulations for the optical signal. Time-dependent light conditions, non-ideal measurement conditions, and various diagnostic limitations (noise, etc.) may be incorporated into the simulated signals. 3 AcknowledgementsThe fringen program evolved from a set of MATLAB utilities for other programs, such as PointVISAR. Testing these programs required velocimetry signals that correspond with a known velocity history. It became tedious to manually create these synthetic signals, so I began to formalize these code fragments into a common function.
