“…To our knowledge, only three series describing the use of venous allografts preserved at 4°C for infrainguinal bypass have been published: those by Van Reedt Dortland et al, 2 De Leersnijder et al, 3 and Rebane et al 4 Because all series including ours differ with regard to mean age, clinical stage, and proportion of above-knee, below-knee, and infrapopliteal bypasses, comparison of the incidence of aneurysmal dilatation and 5-year secondary patency rate is difficult (Table VII). Aneurysmal dilatation of venous allografts is probably related more to weaknesses in the vein wall (pathological greater saphenous veins) than to rejection for the reasons described above.…”
