“…To avoid this, we recommend tunneling the catheter medial to the breast along the sternum with plastic surgery colleagues observing intraoperatively, if possible 15,21 . It is important to note that in many of the cases reviewed in this article, the neurosurgeon was not aware that the patient had breast implants, which may have impacted their ability to plan appropriate VPS placement 4 . Preemptively tunneling medial to the breast could reduce the risk of breast-related VPS complications, especially in these emergent cases where patients are unable to communicate their history of breast augmentation.…”
