Vermicompost and vermiwash as supplement to improve seedling, plant growth and yield in Linum usitassimum L. for organic agriculture

Abstract: Purpose To study the organic production in two varieties of Linum (Linseed) crop using different proportions of vermicomposts and combination of vermiwash as an environment friendly substitute to chemical fertilizers for organic farming of Linseed. Method Vermicompost prepared from cattle dung was mixed in different proportions, i.e. 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% vermicompost v/v with soil and commercial potting media (Perlite, Peat and Coconut coir). To study the germination, vegetative growth, reproductive gro… Show more

“…5). Makkar et al (2017) stated that there was an indication of high photosynthetic efficiency combined with foliar application of CT. El-Sherbeny et al (2012) mentioned that, medium CT level did not significantly increase the number of leaves of Brassica rapa (turnip) plants, compared with control. Decrement of the number of leaves with the increase of CT concentration (Fig.…”

“…Soil improvement with vermicompost can increase growth and yield of the other crops such as garlic (Argüello et al 2006), aubergine (Gajalakshmi and Abbasi 2004), strawberry (Arancon et al 2004b), and sweet corn (Lazcano et al 2011). The combined effects of vermicompost and vermiwash can also increase the yield of organic linseed crop (Makkar et al 2017). The improvement of soil physicochemical and the addition of plant growth substances in the soil stimulated the development of roots and growth of shoots and plant leaf area (Edwards et al 2004;Lazcano et al 2009).…”
