Versatile CAD formulation for estimation of the resonant frequency and magnetic polarizability of circular split ring resonators

Abstract: In this article, we propose a theoretical formulation to estimate the resonant frequency and magnetic polarizability of a circular split ring resonator (SRR). The computed results are compared with experimental and simulation results revealing excellent agreement for a wide range of frequencies. The proposed theory was compared with simulation for different parametric variation of the SRR. V C 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE 21:432-438, 2011.

“…Estimation through the equivalent circuit model e.g. 33–36 , could be used, as well. However, the full-electromagnetic study was adopted because, in general, is more accurate since takes into account the real shape of the geometry, the total coupling between the antenna parts and the antenna radiation.…”

“…The equivalent circuit of the proposed SRR is also indicated in Figure , where L TI indicates the total inductance, C GC and C DC are gap capacitance and distributed capacitance, respectively. The distributed capacitance C DC is obtained across the two rectangular halves with respect to the split gaps for the proposed SRR structure . Since there is an external magnetic field along z‐axis of the proposed SRR, it induced an electromotive force, which is present around the SRR.…”

“…As per the setup port 1 and 2 are present to excite the proposed rectangular SRR. The refractive index ( n r ) and impedance ( z s ) can be determined from these retrieved S‐parameters with the help of the following Equations . Equation provide the effective medium parameter (magnetic permeability μ). nr=()1/k00.12emts0.12emcos1[]()1/2S21{}false(1S112+S212 zs=()1+S112()normalS212/{()1S112()normalS2121/2 normalμ=nr×zs where, k 0 = 2π f / (3 × 10 8 m/s), t s = Width of substrate slab.…”

“…In the former, the resonator is mainly composed of waveguides but usually suffer in large size and cumbersome experimental preparation process. In the later, the resonant techniques based on the planar microstrip line are preferable because of their low cost, lightweight, and ease in fabrication, and it has been the subject of an intensive research activity in the last years …”
