Versatile SiO2 Nanoparticles@Polymer Composites with Pragmatic Properties

Abstract: In the present work, we report the fabrication of silica nanoparticles embedded polymeric (SiO 2 nanoparticles@polymer) composite films for numerous traits like texture, folding endurance, crystallinity, size, thermal behavior, spectral analysis, and bioactivity. Significant facets of bulky, inert, inorganic materials are known to burgeon out due to the high surface area of nanosized particles. Nature and proportion of silica nanoparticles as well as polymers exhibited remarkable impact on the fabrication and … Show more

“…Nowadays, the formulation of polymer-inorganic nanocomposite materials has been widely researched due to their interesting properties, because it combines the features of organic and inorganic materials, generating a new material for different potential applications. These materials acquire the synergy of the flexibility and the processability of the polymers with the optical and hydrophilic properties of the inorganic component, generating a compatible compound with both features [3].…”

“…The bactericidal activity of metal oxide embedded polymer composites was attributed to their surface-destructive interactions with the cell membranes. 32,33 As shown in Fig. 4a, increase in the ZnO content showed decrease in turbidity of 35 In the comparative analysis (Fig 4b), antibacterial activity of ZnO nanoparticles against gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria was more than gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria.…”

“…The band observed between 3300–3500 cm −1 was attributed to the stretching O–H group, resulting from the intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonds [ 39 , 40 ]. Bands in the range of 3020–2968 cm −1 correspond to the C–H stretching of –CH 2 (samples F1–F3).…”

“…These results indicated the strong interactions of the incorporation of SiO 2 nanoparticles in polymer matrix with zinc ions, confirmed also by the percentage removal of Zn 2+ . The peaks at 1370 cm −1 and around 1230 cm − 1 can be due to symmetric vibrations of –CH 3 and of C–O single bond stretching modes [ 37 , 39 , 40 ].…”
