Abstracte present article attempts to describe the social evolution of the community of Vershina, a village founded in the beginning of the 20th century by voluntary settlers from Little Poland, from a cultural island to the stage of assimilation. e social, economic, cultural, political and language situation of the community changed several times. e most signi cant historical moments of Russia and the Soviet Union set the borders of three main periods in Vershina's history. During its rst two-three decades Vershina consisted a homogenous Polish cultural and language island. e migrants preserved the Roman Catholic religion, Polish language and traditions as well as farming methods and machines. Collectivization and the communist system with its repressions made the Polish village assimilate to its surroundings. With the ow of time, the generation of rst settlers died and some of the traditions of Little Poland vanished or got modi ed by the elements of the Soviet, Russian or Buryat culture. A er the Perestroika the minorities gained some rights, which strengthened in the 1990s. anks, to the political changes and the collapse of the SU the inhabitants of Vershina can found cultural organisations, cultivate their religion, and learn Polish in local schools. However, in spite of the regained rights, over the decades of mass sovietization and ateization, the culture and customs of the Polish community became similar to other Siberian villages. Young people from the group of our interest abandon their mother language and are not eager to leave Russia and move to Poland. e process of assimilation is

Theoretical remarks on code-switching in monologues of the Old Believers living in PolandThe Old Believers living in Poland are a bilingual community. Although they managed to maintain their religion, culture and language through ages, their language situation as well as the structure of the dialect have been undergoing severe changes. In spite of Polish loan translations and borrowings present in the Russian dialect, the Old Believers tend to switch the code between sentences and inside of them. The article is an approach to find an appropriate theoretical approach to characterize the phenomenon of code switching and code mixing in monologues, i.e. these cases of switching which are caused neither by the change of interlocutor nor by the change of communicative situation. Uwagi teoretyczne na temat zmiany kodu w monologach starowierców mieszkających w Polsce Mieszkający w Polsce staroobrzędowcy są społecznością dwujęzyczną. Choć na przestrzeni kilku stuleci udało im się zachować swoją religię, kulturę i język, ich sytuacja językowa oraz struktura dialektu wciąż podlegają poważnym zmianom. Oprócz zapożyczeń i kalk z języka polskiego przejawem tych zmian jest tendencja do przełączania kodów pomiędzy zdaniami i wewnątrz nich. Artykuł stanowi próbę znalezienia podejścia teoretycznego, które byłoby odpowiednie do opisu zjawisk przełączania i mieszania kodów w monologach, czyli tych przypadków zmiany języka wypowiedzi, które nie są spowodowane zmianą rozmówcy ani sytuacji komunikacyjnej.
