Vertex extradural hematoma in association with Paget′s disease of the skull

Abstract: Paget's disease of skull usually causes neurological complications such as basilar invagination, cranial neuropathies, etc. Occurrence of extradural hematoma in association with Paget's disease of skull is rare. A 48 year old man presented with headache and right upper limb weakness, two days after a fall from scooter. “…1,2 There have been a number of reports of extradural haematoma and it has been postulated that this may be partly due to the increased vascularity of bone affected by Paget's disease. 6,7 Treatment of Paget's disease is through disease control with reduction of pain and prevention of pathological fractures through the administration of bisphosphonates. Intravenous bisphosphonates are used in more severe cases and oral bisphosphonates for maintenance therapy as in this case.…”

Size expressed as a fraction (0.1cm X Number of cases) and for purpose of rep-resentation, the largest representation is shown as Square root of (0.1cm X Number of cases) …”

“…Columella et al[ 11 ] mentioned oozing from fracture line and detachment of dura from bone as bleeding source. Ramesh[ 24 ] referred to a traumatic case with Paget’s disease in the absence of fracture or dural sinus injury. In a similar way of majority, we observed tear of sinus wall or arachnoid granulation as bleeding source.…”
