A Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft is an aircraft with the ability to take off and land vertically. The ability of removing the need for a runway allows VTOL aircraft to be used for applications that standard aircraft cannot be used for. These applications include military, firefighting, and transportation applications. For the purposes of this paper, helicopters will be considered to be VTOL aircraft, as they fit the general criteria and are among the first to be widely used. VTOL aircraft can be split into several categories, including hybrid VTOL aircraft, VTOL Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and electric VTOL aircraft. These categories of VTOL aircraft are compared. Famous VTOL aircrafts like Osprey and Harrier are introduced. The technology behind VTOL aircraft is explained, and the ways in which VTOL aircraft can be made useful are reviewed. In addition, the prospect of VTOL aircraft has been made. This paper may offer a reference for the future works about VTOL.

The plane has become a convenient method of transportation. The main idea of aviation in the 21st century is the safety of passengers and crew. But the human is always inclined towards comfort. The structural and parametric analysis of the long-haul aircraft development made it possible to form the concept of the fuselage layout with capsule accommodation of passengers. The proposed variant of the capsule accommodation, designed for the Boeing 777-200LR, can be installed in other passenger airliners with a ceiling height of at least 2.1 m. Analysis of alternative options for the layout of the passenger compartment allows us to state: with a flight range of more than 8 hours, the flight is comfortable only in business or first classes; the proposed two-story capsule placement allows to provide the layout with first-class seats in a given cabin.

There are types of aircraft for which the geometric shapes are primarily due to “hard” infrastructural constraints. The secondary nature of aerodynamic requirements makes it possible to deviate from the traditional design task. And move on to the Inverse Design Problem. A solution that allows you to reduce the number of design iterations and narrow the search for a rational solution in the Pareto-optimal area. These aircraft include vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. After analyzing the characteristics of moment-inertia units obtained after an analytical experiment, it shows that the introduction of a virtual center of mass makes it possible to reduce the radius of action of the inertial forces of the aircraft. A sequence of absolute advantages in terms of the moment of inertia of the nodes has been obtained, for example, a more optimal location of the target load, fuel tanks and power plant, which provides an advantage in the mass of the aircraft up to 7-8%, only due to the rational moment of inertia of the layout relative to the virtual center of mass. In an aircraft, the moment of inertia depends to the fifth power on the change in its linear size
