Very compact UWB CPW-fed fractal antenna using modified ground plane and unit cells

Abstract: A compact printed monopole antenna is presented consisting of a fractal radiating patch, which is excited with a coplanar waveguide. It is shown that with the inclusion of two pairs of notches in the ground plane, can extend the antenna's performance for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The antenna's patch is composed of a definite number of fractal rectangular unit cells. The antenna's parameters were investigated to fully determine the effect on its overall characteristics. Hence, the salient parameters fro… Show more

“…Rapid growth in wireless communication demands extremely compact antenna with wider bandwidth [1], high data rate, low power requirements and easy hardware configuration [2]. The swift deployment of short distance wireless communications such as Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) is demanding for compact, low cost, multiband and broadband antenna [3].…”

“…The frequency range of 3.1–10.6 GHz is allotted for ultrawideband (UWB) communication by FCC in 2002 . The UWB communication systems have several advantages like extensive bandwidth, high‐speed data rate transmission, low power requirements, immunity to multipath propagation, and simple hardware configuration . The rapid developments in UWB antenna designing have resulted into exponential growth in the field of wireless communication devices.…”
