Vessel dilator cricothyrotomy for transtracheal jet ventilation

Abstract: Hypoxaemia resulting from failed intubation can be a significant cause of anaesthesia-related morbidity and mortality. Anatomical variations, upper airway pathology, laryngospasm and the presence of foreign bodies, blood or secretions, are common causes of intubation failures.~ It is possible that many complications resulting from unsuccessful airway management could be avoided if an alternative method of patient oxygenation were immediately available. 2 Needle cricothyrotomy has been described for applica-34 … Show more

“…The commonly used iv catheters for TTJV are thin-walled, easily compressed and prone to kinking. Boyce et al have recommended the use of vessel dilator to provide a secure airway during TTJV 7 . We think there is a risk of endobronchial insertion of long vessel dilator when the tracheal entry site is located near the carina, such as in the case presented.…”

“…Successful socialization by default then addresses other social issues that minoritized trainees face like stereotype threat and imposter syndrome. Recent articles discuss mentors' specific roles in socialization of minoritized mentees [6,11,12]. URM trainees require mentors to go beyond providing research experience and training.…”

“…Several articles outline the features and essence of effective mentorship, and strategies specific to people of color have also been outlined extensively [6,11,12,[18][19][20][21], and will therefore not be the focus of this contribution. The goals of this article are to 1) highlight the perspectives of URM trainees, mentors, and mentors of URM trainees on challenging me to step outside of my comfort zone and untap potential I didn't know existed.…”
