Veterinary education in India: Shaping the future agenda with focus on veterinary public health education

Abstract: Veterinary education provides human resource required for augmenting public good. In a country, where up to80% population is rural and animal husbandry is the livelihood, veterinary profession provides the desired professional coverage. The available 46 colleges are inadequate to turn out the required number of vets. Out of these, only six conform to the standards laid down by the Veterinary Council of India.
