Vibration Control for House Structures beyond 3 Story using Adjustable Pendulum-Type Controller under Ground Excitation like Traffic Vibrations or Earthquakes

Abstract: In this paper, a new vibration control device called pendulum-type tuned mass damper (P.T.M.D.) is proposed to reduce an ordinal house vibration. In recent years, three or four stories houses are built increasingly in the urban areas to obtain wide living space. These houses are subjected to a problem caused by the traffic vibration, because a dominant frequency of the traffic vibration is coincident with the natural frequency of these houses. Although tuned mass dampers (T.M.D.) are considered to solve the pr… Show more

“…DVA is a vibration system which is added to the primary structure for reducing the vibration response of the system at a predetermined frequency range. This method usually used to suppress the excessive vibration response of the structure near its natural frequency [6], [7], [8], [9]. The DVA can effectively reduce the vibration response of the main system when its parameters are optimally designed.…”

“…One application of DVA is for reducing vibration of tower suspension bridge (Casciati and Giuliano 2009). Other applications which DVAs were also used including controlling multi storey building vibrations (Seto et al 2011), seismic protection of high towers (Giuseppe et al 2008), reducing chatter during boring operation (Hu et al 2013) and suppressing image transfer belt system vibration (Yu et al 2013). Nigdeli and Bekdas (2013) evaluate the application of TMD for preventing Brittle Fracture of RC Building.…”
