Vibration Monitoring Approach in Integrated System of Hydroelectric Generating Sets for Smart Power Stations

Abstract: Vibration monitoring is the most important module of an integrated monitoring system of hydroelectric generating sets (HGSs) due to the fact that most faults of HGSs are reflected in the form of vibration. To improve the vibration monitoring ability of the integrated monitoring system of HGSs, a novel integrated monitoring approach based on team intelligence is proposed in this paper. The monitoring functions are assigned to some team members with complementary capabilities and expertise, based on which the int… Show more

“…28 Misalignment is not an exclusive fault of the shaft; it can also be present in guide vanes, runner blades, or rotors. 29 Each turbine-generator auxiliary system presents specific failure modes and specific monitoring variables such as the cooling and lubrication system, 30 turbine governor, 31 power converter, 32 servo-valve, 33 and pressure tubes. 34 All these failures detrimentally impact the hydroelectric operation.…”

“…The collaborative monitoring system based on team intelligence has been successfully integrated into the hydropower plant optimal maintenance information system (HOMIS), which has been employed by Gezhouba Hydropower Plant [2]. It plays a positive role in assisting experts and engineers at field to make a comprehensive analysis of faults detected and assess health condition of equipment accurately.…”

“…A number of specialised monitoring and diagnosis systems were applied in power plant around the world [1–5], such as generator partial discharge (PD) monitoring system, turbine cavitation monitoring system, vibration monitoring system, which play an important role in improving the reliability and availability of sets and now they are evolving into individual intelligence system (IIS) with the ability to make a diagnosis and evaluate automatically.…”
