Vibrations of a crank‐shaft in a sewing machine induced by a zigzag mechanism

Abstract: Torsional vibrations of a shaft induced by a zigzag mechanism in a sewing machine with an oscillatory hook are studied in this paper. The dynamic equations of the motion are derived using the principle of virtual work. The discrete forms of the functions relating the motion of machine elements are found using Newton‐Brent method. They are replaced locally by the continuous ones using Lagrange formula. The limit cycle trajectory is found by direct numerical integration and it is illustrated graphically. The pre… Show more

“…As everyone knows, the vibrations of sewing machines are excited by the reciprocating motion of working elements, such as the needle mechanism and the rotating shuttle mechanism. 1 Furthermore, the vibrations inevitably result in noise, which will annoy people and their surrounding environment, and the noise level increases significantly with the increase of operational speed and production scale. Unfortunately, the number of industrial sewing machines in garment manufacture is large and the machines often operate simultaneously, so it is easy for the noise level to reach an unbearable degree, which can reduce an operator’s efficiency and even impair his/her health (e.g.…”
