Video Capsule Endoscopy: The Past, Present, and Future

Abstract: Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) has been available for evaluation of the small bowel since the beginning of the 21 st century. This review of the literature examines the beginnings of capsule endoscopy, improvements made, and capsules likely to be made available in the near future. Preparation, indications, contraindications, and future applications are also discussed.
