Viewing Learning Through a New Lens: The Quantum Perspective of Learing

Abstract: We are living in a quantum world where virtuality allows us to transcend time and space. Boundaries, which were considered to be predetermined, are no longer absolute. This has important implications for the field of education as educators advance e-learning. However, education theory has been outpaced by practice. In this paper the authors propose a new learning perspective-the quantum perspective of learning which moves beyond current popular educational theories of constructivism (Siemens, 2005) and connect… Show more

“…Unlike machine design with a behavioral approach, quantum learning environments are based on living systems. It is the natural, dynamic and interconnected networks of relationships that are continuously learning and adapting, and evolving (Janzen, 2012). From the perspective of the principle of quantum entanglement that always changes everywhere and at any time, learning Offers a lifetime.…”

“…While it is known that APTs are effective, it is less clear why and how they are effective especially in the triad of stimulating interaction, creating social presence, and helping develop community in the online postsecondary classroom. Why APTs are effective has been, and continues to be, theoretically explored and refined through writings and research related to The Quantum Perspective of Learning (Janzen, 2013;Janzen, Perry & Edwards, 2011a;2012a;2012b;2012c).…”

“…The purpose of this paper is to explore the tensions that exist in students (and ourselves) as we live into (and through) the in-between space of being (and yet not being), fatigue (and yet energy), and transformation (and yet potential stagnation), within the phase of becoming a leader and a Registered Nurse (RN). The Quantum Perspective of Learning or QL (Janzen, 2013;Janzen, Perry & Edwards, 2011, 2012a, 2012b provided a theoretical foundation to connect with some of the core course concepts of authenticity, self-expression, critical thought, and reflective practice. Poetry, influenced by online class discussion, written by the authors, is included to not only support our thinking and reflection, but to also resonate with the reader as he or she ponders upon the reflections offered.…”

“…The Quantum Perspective of Learning (QL) (Janzen, 2013;Janzen, Perry & Edwards, 2011;2012a;2012b) provokes learning by taking the most salient parts of existing learning theory and circumscribing them into a theory. Instead of learning being flat, onedimensional and with concrete starting and ending points, QL is envisioned as being infinite in nature.…”
