Vinpocetine in the treatment of poststroke cognitive dysfunction

Abstract: Background: Previous clinical trials have reported that vinpocetine can be used for the treatment of cognitive dysfunction. However, its efficacy is still inconclusive. In this systematic review study, we aim to assess its efficacy and safety for the treatment of poststroke cognitive dysfunction (PSCD). Methods: We will search the following electronic databases from the inception to the present to evaluate the efficacy and safety of vinpocetine for patients with PSCD. T… Show more

“…Researchers consider this effect of vinpocetine as an analog of ischemic preconditioning, the most powerful form of endogenous tissue protection against ischemia [ 25 ]. In patients with dementia, it has also been found to cause improvement in speech, movement, memory disorders, improvement of the quality of life [ 26 ]. But randomized trials in this regard are not so robust as in the acute stage of cerebral infarction.…”

“… 32 Recently, the protocol of meta-analysis for treating stroke-related disease has been established to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Vinp. 33 Researchers assumed that it could also be protective in conditions of hypoxia and ischemia. The assumption has been evidenced by multiple clinical studies on patients suffering ischemic stroke.…”
