Israeli media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is often accused of bias that skews public discourse in ways favoring hardline Zionist policy goals. This study analyzes news articles from the Times of Israel, Israel Hayom, and Jerusalem Post covering October 2023 violence to understand how language and framing shape understandings and political dynamics. A critical discourse analysis of 34 selected news articles published between October 7-30, 2023 was conducted using the CDA framework to uncover underlying ideological elements and their potential effects. The findings illuminated how certain outlets strategically frame information to reinforce unilateral policy preferences over collaborative solutions. By normalizing disproportionate responses to acts of resistance and denying the humanity of those contesting Zionist territorial ambitions. The Times of Israel and Israel Hayom frame narratives to consolidate unilateral Zionist control and normalize militarized policies. Jerusalem Post aims to build a pro-Israel narrative through political language and ‘us vs. them’ framing. Strategic omissions deny Palestinian grievances and legitimacy, while emotive reporting justifies disproportionate force. The studied media construct narrow nationalist discourses that delegitimize Palestinian perspectives and fuel intractability. Reforms are needed to diversify sourcing and fact-check distortions to curb biases exacerbating political polarization rather than reconciliation.

Digambarkan sebagai 'krisis COVID-19’, peningkatan kekerasan terjadi selama pandemi baru-baru ini, termasuk terjadinya tindak kekerasan perawat Christina Ramauli. Pemberitaan ini mendapatkan perhatian cukup besar karena penganiayaan terjadi saat perawat sedang menjalankan tugasnya. Hal ini dianggap salah satu ancaman baru bagi keamanan dan sistem pelayanan kesehatan yang sedang fokus penanganan pandemi Covid-19. Studi ini menyelidiki bagaimana pemberitaan tindak kekerasan perawat Christina Ramauli Simatupang pada pemberitaan media nasional, khususnya tiga media nasional terpilih yaitu, Media CNNIndonesia, TribunNews.com dan Kompas.com. Tujuan dari studi ini untuk mendeskripsikan representasi tindak kekerasan perawat Christina Ramauli Simatupang dalam anak kalimat, kombinasi anak kalimat dan rangkaian antar kalimat dalam pemberitaan nasional. Studi ini menggunakan metode pendekatan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan teori Norman Fairclough. Sumber data dalam studi ini bersumber dari teks berita daring tentang “Tindak kekerasan perawat”. Beberapa artikel berita yang berkaitan dengan korban dari media CNNIndonesia, TribunNews.com dan Kompas.com dianalisis berdasarkan anak kalimat, kombinasi anak kalimat dan rangkaian antar kalimat. Hasil temuan menunjukkan terdapat tiga jenis representasi perspektif Norman Fairclough yang telah dideskripsikan dalam pemberitaan tindak kekerasan perawat dalam teks berita daring di media nasional, dari tiga jenis representasi tersebut, jenis representasi dalam anak kalimat yang lebih dominan dengan bentuk representasi perbandingan yang sama antara jenis representasi dalam anak kalimat, ditemukan juga bentuk representasi dalam kombinasi anak kalimat dan representasi dalam rangkaian antar kalimat berdasarkan bentuk mendukung atau suportif terhadap pemberitaan tindak kekerasan perawat Christina Ramauli. Pemberitaan nasional tentang tindak kekerasan perawat Christina Ramauli Simatupang sudah cukup adil dan suportif terhadap korban dengan representasi yang berbeda dari ketiga media nasional tersebut.

In the last decade, the spread of the violence became one of the most worrying phenomena in the Palestinian Arab community in Israel. This article focuses on the violence where victims and offenders come from Palestinian Arab community in Israel. Its purpose is to review the attitudes of the public figures in the Jewish and the Palestinian Arab communities of the country regarding the violence in the latter community through the lens of the conspiracy and the cultural violence theories. The review shows that some leaders of the Palestinian Arab community tend to refer to the persistence of violence and crime in their community in a cospirative way. Their key claim is that the state authorities intentionally neglect this phenomenon and possibly have some sinister goal behind this way of conduction. In contrast, public representatives of the Jewish community tend to refer to the persistence of violence and crime in Palestinian Arab community in cultural terms. Their key claim is that violence in Palestinian Arab community is deeply rooted in the culture of this community. The review suggests that the attitudes reflect the discourse around the “blaming the victim” concept, whereas representatives of the hegemonic Jewish majority use this tactic in their cultural violence rhetoric, and representatives of the dispossessed Palestinian Arab minority complain against it using the conspiracy beliefs. The review is concluded with broad implications for the Israeli society.
