Virulence genes and antibiotic resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from patients in the Northwestern of Morocco

Abstract: Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an ubiquitous bacterium causes various community-acquired and nosocomial infections. In this investigation, we aimed to screen the antibiotic susceptibility patterns and the prevalence of virulence factor genes in a set of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from nosocomial and community-acquired infections in the Northwestern of Morocco. Methodology: A total of 155 of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were collected (January 2015 - December 2016) from nosocomial and comm… Show more

“…QS in Pseudomonas consist of a three interconnected systems, namely the Las, Rhl, and Pqs systems; these systems facilitate the changes needed for the pathogens’ survival, by the sensing of diffusible signal molecules found in their surroundings, which is a proxy for the population density in the niche [ 96 , 97 , 98 ]. However, many antibiotics also have the ability to affect these QS systems in Pseudomonas , either by directly acting on gene expression or by the degradation of these signal molecules [ 99 ]. The emergence of P. aeruginosa isolates with different biofilm-forming capacities may also inform the genetic heterogeneity within these species, which is an important factor for successful infection in humans [ 9 ].…”

“…Although the findings of this study may seem useful, some limitations must be considered when the interpretation of the results is required. The strict focus on GLASS bacteria might have led to oversight of important pathogens like Helicobacter pylori [ 105 , 106 ], and Pseudomonas aeruginosa [ 107 , 108 ], which are of significate public health concern in AMR. The Validity and generalizability of the findings to the entire country’s regions might be affected by the clinical-based, cross-sectional study design of the published papers, mainly collected from Casablanca and Marrakech cities.…”

“…The results of the molecular detection of the algD gene that contribute to the production of the alginate layer in P. aeruginosawere: all isolates possessed algD gene about ratio 21(95.4 %) and one isolate did not possessed it , shown in figure (3), The results of this study were in agreement with (27) and (28) While not in agreement with (29) .…”
