Visible light communication using wavelength division multiplexing for smart spaces

Abstract: LED lights used mainly for illumination purpose, can be simultaneously used for data transmission. In this paper, a visible light communications system is proposed that employs wavelength division multiplexing, to transmit multiple data streams from different data sources simultaneously, over the wireless channel. Successful implementation of a low cost prototype system is reported. The effect of ambient noise on system performance is studied. On the basis of empirical results, performance evaluation of propos… Show more

“…When using red, green and blue (RGB) LEDs (figure 1a), a data rate of more than 3.22 Gbps was achieved in [31] through WDMA implementation in a visible light communication (VLC) system. Moreover, another demonstration of a VLC system that used WDMA was reported in [32]. In addition, by using red, yellow, green and blue (RYGB) LDs (figure 1b), the researchers in [5] achieved a data rate of up to 10 Gbps.…”

“…Penelitian lain dilakukan oleh Khan dan timnya (Khan, Tahir, & Usman, 2012) dimana mereka mengimplementasikan teknologi VLC untuk transmisi sinyal juga. Akan tetapi, sinyal yang dikirimkan memiliki jumlah yang banyak oleh karena itu digunakan metoda Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM).…”

“…For our numerical simulations, we will use a standard "office environment" arrangement, akin to the ones typically used in similar work [1,21,22,23,24]. However, we have decided to adopt a larger room size than was considered in the above mentioned work, as in our opinion it better fits real-world environments.…”

“…Visible light communication (VLC) is a wireless optical communication technology through which baseband signals are modulated on the light emitted by an LED: [1] - [3]. The decreasing cost and hence rapid adaptation of LED-based light make VLC a promising communication technique and a significant alternative to radio-based wireless communication.…”
