Visualization of epithelial-mesenchymal transition in an inflammatory microenvironment–colorectal cancer network

Abstract: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a biological process by which epithelial cells acquire mesenchymal characteristics. In malignant tumors, EMT is crucial for acquisition of a mesenchymal phenotype with invasive and metastatic properties, leading to tumor progression. An inflammatory microenvironment is thought to be responsible for the development and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC); however, the precise role of inflammatory microenvironments in EMT-related CRC progression remains unclear. Here… Show more

“…An important implication in EMT was also revealed by IL-22 in relation with IL-1β 29 , which was shown to be critically involved in CRC cell metastasis 30 We showed an important correlation between IL-8, IL-1β, MMP-2 and IL-22 ( Fig. 3 and Fig.…”

“…TGFbeta signaling is associated with EMT and therefore could present a potential link between miR-487a-3p and EMT. The process of EMT is closely associated with therapy resistance in various cancers, including CRC (29,30).…”
