Visualizations of bibliographic information: A user experience study

Abstract: Bibliographic information was presented using five different prototype systems, including four different visualizations of FRBR-based bibliographic information and one more traditional bibliographic information system. This study reports user performance and perceptions using the same tasks across the different visualizations. Users include undergraduate students of a large university in the USA. The study’s methodology is based on a continuation of a study testing the same prototype interfaces in Slovenia, wi… Show more

“…FRBR-based interfaces are designed to be responsive, adapting to different devices and screen sizes to ensure a consistent and user-friendly experience. In addition, users can locate similar papers they require by searching and locating (Salaba & Merčun, 2020). It also shows that users completely comprehend the hierarchical linkages, but further study is needed to understand users' enjoyment of networked methods of visualising bibliographic families.…”

“…However, changes in the design of bibliographic information systems, including library catalogues, have not been as significant as expected. Salaba and Merčun (2018) review the literature on the impact of the FRBR conceptual model in representing bibliographic data as well as in relation to the investigations on bibliographic information visualisation, appreciating some experimental attempts and some actual implementations of FRBR. However, the implementation of the FRBR-visual prototype demonstrates how semantic relationships among bibliographic entities could be organised and different expressions of the same work could be presented (Merčun et al, 2016(Merčun et al, , 2017.…”
