Vocal Outcome After Arytenoid Adduction and Ansa Cervicalis Transfer

Abstract: Treatment with AA + ACN-RLN provides near-normal vocal function in the 24-month follow-up. Therefore, this method could be a successful surgical treatment for severe paralytic dysphonia.

“…6 Arytenoid adduction is also used to close a moderate-to-large glottal gap, and there is a synergistic effect on combining this technique with nerve transfer. 24 Although these procedures are more effective for large glottal gaps than injection laryngoplasty, injection laryngoplasty has become widely applied for UVFP because of the simplicity of the procedure and the development of diverse materials, such as hyaluronic acid, micronized acellular dermis, bovine collagen, and calcium hydroxyapatite. 25,26 In addition, early vocal fold injection with temporary material may decrease the rate of permanent medialization procedure compared with conservative management, such as observation and voice therapy in cases of UVFP.…”

“…It has been found that HNR is correlated with the perceptual assessment of hoarseness [60] and vocal clarity [61]. HNR has been an important and commonly used outcome measure of voice treatment [62,63]. Praat 6.1.40 [51] was used to measure HNR from the middle 3-s segments from three trials of vowel samples and the averaged result (in dB) was used for the statistical analysis.…”

“…It has also been reported that HNR is the best single predictor for breathiness and roughness . HNR has been used extensively in the literature as an outcome measure of voice treatment …”

“…8 HNR has been used extensively in the literature as an outcome measure of voice treatment. 9,10 Cepstral analysis is obtained using a Fourier transform of the logarithm power spectrum. 11 From the voice cepstrum, a cepstral peak is identified corresponding to the fundamental period and is the dominant "rahmonic."…”
