Voltage and power control used to stabilise the distributed generation system for stand‐alone or grid‐connected operation

Abstract: This study presents a control strategy for managing power delivered to, or absorbed from, the grid, independent of local load or grid characteristics. To achieve this objective, the strategy requires the use of three levels of control structures. The first is related to phase-locked loop and grid-tie algorithms, which are employed to minimise disturbances during the grid connection. The second, which produces voltages with reduced harmonics levels at the distributed generation (DG) terminals, comprises the cas… Show more

“…The controller structure is such that the inverter operates as a controlled voltage source. Various regulators (i.e., H D2 -H D1 ) have been employed in this type of controller, most commonly: P-P [36], P-PI [49], P-PR [67], [68], [70], PI-PR [69], PR-PR [71], DB-DB [66]. Among these, the P-PR is a very common solution.…”

“…In this paper, the designs are carried out only for ph_a. An error signal for ph_a, e a (t) for extraction of the weight vector is calculated from the differences between the measured and the estimated components of the load current [18,19]. Accordingly, weights for active and reactive power components for ph_a are updated as below:…”

“…An NN-based current control algorithm for active power filter has been proposed in [18]. The uses of three-tire control strategy to avoid disturbances when the DG is connected to the grid are shown in [19]. Various conventional current control techniques are reported in [20][21][22][23].…”

“…Since successful construction and operation of the Trans-Bay highvoltage direct current (HVDC) link, the half-bridge modular multilevel converter (HB-MMC) has received wide acceptance from utility and transmission systems operators. The HB-MMC offers attractive features such as [1][2][3][4] potential scalability to ultra-HV overhead dc systems; moreover, its ability to operate normally with a limited number of failed submodules, and resilient to ac faults. However, its main limitation is massive footprint due to the large number of its submodule capacitors.…”
