Voltage sags observation through optimal monitor locations

Abstract: the concern towards voltage sag has increased rapidly due to the amount of losses it created. Throughout the world, many researchers have proposed a study on the characteristics and the mitigation methods which may be used to overcome or reduce the effect cause by the voltage sag. In this paper, a method that used a minimum number of power quality monitors has been proposed to monitor the occurrence of voltage sags in the utility system. By using the area of vulnerability concept, the optimal monitor locations… Show more

“…This is the same model of discrete linear programming proposed by [3], [5], [6], [8], [9], [11], [12]. However, these papers were concerned only at the observability of the system to the SDVVs.…”

“…Many efforts have been made to deal with the problem of choosing the best locations to install PQMs, aiming at the monitoring of SDVVs occurring in the electrical power system and minimizing the PQMs quantity. Some papers have studied this problem in electrical power transmission systems [3], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9].…”

“…To calculate SARFI, the voltage of every single bus must be monitored, but it is not cost-efficient since a huge number of measurement instruments are required. Today, much research is done on the optimal placement of measuring and monitoring equipment [8][9][10][11]. An alternative cost-effective approach is approximating the voltage of buses based on a limited number of monitored buses.…”

“…In [7], the fault position method is used to apply the fault, but only for the three-phase fault. In [10], while all fault types can be applied, the accuracy has been slightly reduced. Critical distance and fault position methods (FPM) have been used to determine the vulnerable area in [11][12][13][14][15], but they have some deficiencies in ring networks.…”
