Voltammetric Determination of Chlorpheniramine Maleate Based on the Enhancement Effect of Sodium‐dodecyl Sulfate at Carbon Paste Electrode

Abstract: The voltammetric oxidation and determination of chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM) was studied at a carbon paste electrode (CPE) in the presence of sodium-dodecyl sulfate (SDS) by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. The results indicated that the voltammetric response of chlorpheniramine maleate was markedly increased in the low concentration of SDS, suggesting that SDS exhibits observable enhancement effect to the determination of chlorpheniramine maleate. Under the optimal conditions the peak current was … Show more

“…For both antihistamines molecules (CPH and PHN), one electron is lost (electrochemical step) from the aliphatic tertiary amine group with the formation of a cation radical, that subsequently loses a proton and another electron, to become a Schiff base. The quaternary Schiff base then hydrolyzes to yield the respective benzophenone and dimethylamine .…”

“…CP displayed a well-defined anodic signal on the MWCNTs-IL-gel/GCE over a broad pH range (pH 2-12) 16,17 . This signal appears pH-dependent and is shifted toward lower anodic potentials as the pH increases, facilitating the oxidation process.…”

“…In the best of our knowledge, no electrochemical method to determine simultaneously these drugs has been reported. CP has been determined in pharmaceuticals using polarography 14 and by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using carbon paste electrodes [15][16] , carbon paste electrodes modified with cobalt nanostructures 17 and modified glassy carbon electrodes 18 . Also, the electrochemical oxidation of CP at polytyramine film doped with ruthenium (II) complex, devoted with kinetic and thermodynamic studies have been described 19 .…”

“…Therefore, in the present work Pt nanoparticles are used for modification of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) along with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant. In the literature, SDS has been reported to play an efficient role in pressing or eliminating adsorption interferences . Moreover, SDS improves water solubility of the nanomaterials .…”
