Volume polarization holographic recording in thick photopolymer for optical memory

Abstract: Based on a vector wave theory of volume holograms, dependence of holographic reconstruction on the polarization states of the writing and reading beams is discussed. It is found that under paraxial approximation the circular polarization holograms provide a better distinction of the reading beams. Characteristics of recording polarization holograms in thick phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PQ/PMMA) photopolymer are experimentally investigated. It is found that the circular polarization holo… Show more

“…A Wu et al discovered the conditions of the null reconstruction effect (NRE) employing circular polarization holography in 2015, wherein no reconstruction wave was observed there even when the Bragg condition was satisfied 14 . The NRE was experimentally observed by T Todorov et al in 1986 15 and theoretically explained by Huang et al using paraxial coupled mode theory in 1995 16 . S H Lin et al also observed this phenomenon under a paraxial approximation 17 , wherein the experiment and theory incorporated a small cross angle between the signal and reference wave, which resulted in the NRE.…”

“…Therefore, for the holographic grating generated by Gaussian-Gaussian interference without the extra phase, only τ P exists and the resultant interference light shows constant polarization and modulated intensity in space. Due to the connection between the sinusoidally distributed light intensity and the degree of molecular order, the refractive index of the material in different regions varies periodically and an amplitude grating is generated 44 . The amplitude grating is not able to manipulate the polarization state of the incident light.…”
