Volumetric concentration effects of polystyrene in carbon tetrachloride and chloroform solutions

Abstract

Conformational changes of polystyrene macromolecules with concentration in CHCl, observed by measurement of the depolarization ratio of Raman lines, and their absence in CCl, are essential when considering the dependence of the radius of gyration of the macromolecules on the concentration. The problem was dealt with basing on theoretical calculations of the dependence of the extension ratio of a macromolecule on the concentration in CCl, and CHCl,, with the critical concentration values being determined simultaneously. The effect of hindered inner mobility of the chains arising from the enhanced intermolecular interactions was taken into account.
