Vulvar Pyogenic Granuloma in Adult Female Population: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is an uncommon lesion of unknown etiology. It may be formed following a minor injury. They result from a reactive or inflammatory process consisting of proliferating vascular channels, immature fibroblastic connective tissue, and scattered inflammatory cells rather than neoplastic process. Bleeding is the most common symptom of the lesion. They may be seen in all age groups, and there is no clear predominance of a gender. Vulvar PGs can be confused with other polypoid or sessile lesions… Show more

“…Lobular capillary hemangioma is a benign vascular lesion most commonly occurring at the skin, followed by the oral mucosa [ 1 , 2 ]. However, this type of lesion has been reported in unusual sites, such as mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract, nose, larynx, eyes, and urogenital tract [ 3 8 ]. It is a rapidly growing mass, and clinical symptoms of bleeding, ulceration, and mass effects have been described.…”

“…Encountered generally after a minor injury or trauma, the vascular lesion grows rapidly in weeks or months and can present as an erythematous, pedunculated, exophytic, or sessile lesion, with a smooth or lobulated surface. 2,12 In 63% of the patients it been seen to be associated with systemic disorder like rheumatoid arthritis, hematological malignancies, and inflammatory bowel disease but can be also associated with underlying malignancy . 13 It is diagnosed by histopathology requiring excision and closure as treatment is suggested.…”

“…13 It is diagnosed by histopathology requiring excision and closure as treatment is suggested. 2,12 Invasive and minimally invasive treatments option include surgical excision, curettage followed by electro cauterization, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, sclerotherapy, radiosurgery, silver nitrate cautery, microembolization, lasers, imiquimod, timolol, propranolol, prednisolone, and clobetasol. Photodynamic therapy with 5-aminolevulinic acid has also been used for solitary lesions.…”
