Wall Structure Geometry Verification Using TLS Data and BIM Model

Abstract: Building information modeling (BIM) represents significant progress in the field of digitalization and informatization of the construction process. The virtual model (BIM model) is the source of graphic data among other information, which are applicable for geometry verification of the building’s structures. For this purpose, data and information about the building should be collected. Comparison of the BIM model (design) with as-built 3D models enables the evaluation of the quality of the as-built structures.… Show more

“…However, the reconstruction of BIM objects for interior building scenes and multiple buildings is not considered in this work. In the future, we will combine UAV-based 3D reconstruction with TLS [45] to generate complete building point clouds and extract building structural parameters for BIM modeling. With the experience gained in this study, we will make further attempts to resolve the problem of constructing defect information models for building complexes.…”

“…Tran and Khoshelham [96] proposed an advanced surface coverage approach to make the method robust, which can theoretically detect arbitrary object classes. Euclidean distance is also used to determine the nearest point to the DI geometry surface, for instance, detection [97][98][99]. However, the limitation of all these methods is that they cannot recognise all points corresponding to the object instances when there are deviations between the PCD and DI geometry or in the PCD with high clutter.…”

“…The project lifecycle of a building also contains a stage of renovation, and terrestrial laser scanning is an efficient way to develop 3D BIM in their current state. Laser scanning is a non-contact method of capturing the shape of physical things and providing a precise depiction of the building geometry [102].…”
