WASTE OF THE LICURI (Syagrus coronata) NUT SHELLS: AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE

Abstract: The licuri nut shell is a potential source of biomass for energy production. The aim of this study was the physicochemical characterization of the licuri shell, focusing on the increase of its use as a fuel. The material was collected in Caldeirão Grande-BA and the characterization included a wide range of analyses such as: moisture content, bulk density, particle size distribution, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, high heating value (HHV), hot water and cyclohexane/ethanol extractions, Klason ligni… Show more

“…Licuri cake, which is rich in linoleic, oleic, and palmitic acids (35.3, 21.5, and 17.6%, respectively), improved the FA profile and the sensory attributes of lamb meat [244]. Furthermore, the licuri nutshell has been reported as a potential source of biomass for energy production based on fuel [245].…”

“…In addition to the pharmacological properties already mentioned in this article, plants of the Syagrus genus still have other possible applications (Table 2) [13,14,[70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80], mainly due to their chemical composition. e areas that stand out the most are biotechnology, for biodiesel production at an equal quality or better than the biodiesels on the market.…”

“…O licuri, uma palmeira típica da região semi-árida, encontrada com facilidade na caatinga brasileira, possui, em média, 1357 frutos em seu cacho, que são utilizados na alimentação animal e humana (CREPALDI et al, 2001). A principal aplicação industrial do licuri consiste na produção de óleo vegetal, tanto para cosméticos quanto para alimentos, sendo a casca, que é descartada nesse processo, pode ser reaproveitada como potencial biomassa para a produção de energia (SCALET et al, 2019).…”
