Water Activation in Solar‐Powered Vapor Generation

Abstract: Solar‐powered water evaporation (SWE), based on the liquid‐gas phase conversion concept using solar energy, has been given close attention as a promising technology to address the global water shortage. At molecular level, water molecules escaping from liquid water should overcome the attraction of the molecules on the liquid surface layer to evaporate. For this reason, it is better to reduce the energy required for evaporation by breaking a smaller number of hydrogen bonds or forming weak hydrogen bonds to en… Show more

“…To theoretically evaluate the solar thermal properties of LMTE i nanodroplets, an IR camera was employed to monitor the temperature evolutions during NIR laser illumination. 55 Measurements using a specific wavelength range of light sources (808 nm, 1 W cm −2 ) were carried out to evaluate the photothermal performance of LMTE i considering maximizing the photothermal effect and mitigating stray light influences. 56 The aqueous solutions of LMTE i underwent a strong temperature increase under NIR laser irradiation as the 3h), in agreement with the above analysis results.…”

“…Solar-driven interfacial evaporation co-generation (SIE-CG) technology is when the photothermal material is driven by solar energy, which causes a concentration difference and temperature difference between the interface and the water body while carrying out seawater desalination to achieve hydropower co-generation. At present, researchers have integrated mechanical, temperature-salinity gradient, and other power-generation technologies with SIE to improve the energy utilization efficiency and functionality of solar desalination systems.…”

“…[1,2] Solar energy is an efficient and sustainable renewable energy, which has been widely used due to its wide distribution, short cycle, and high DOI: 10.1002/macp.202300346 power. [3,4] In recent years, the technology of using solar energy interface evaporation to produce clean water has attracted more and more attention. [5][6][7] Improving the efficient light absorption energy can quickly convert light energy into heat energy and has a significant photothermal effect.…”
