Abstract:The present study reported a total of 28 taxa with six families from Asan lake whereas only 18 taxa were reported from river Asan in Doon valley. The families identified were Cyprinidae, Chandadae, Belonidae, Cobitididae, Mastacembellidae, and Sisoridae. The impact of water quality parameters was quite evident on the fish diversity and density of Asan Lake and River Asan. Correlation between hydrological attributes showed good relationship in Asan lake and these parameters were found to be the most important variables in shaping fish assemblage. However, in River Asan the effect of physico-chemical factors were significant on fish diversity. The study showed that Asan lake supported considerable diversity of the fishes and is important for conservation. Its fish fauna is threatened being either vulnerable or endangered. The low fish diversity in river Asan indicated the disturbed habitat and ecological conditions of the river and the data generated from it would be useful for conservation planning and management and also for future assessment of this river.

Abstract:The Kushiyara River basin is located in the north eastern region of Bangladesh. The aim of this study is to investigate the water quality parameters seasonal variation on the basis of physico-chemical analysis such as Temperature, P H , DO (Dissolved Oxygen), BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TS (Total Solids), TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) and SS (Suspended Solids) in both rainy season and winter season for the years 2010 to 2013. The rainy season data is collected during June-July and the winter season data is collected during November-December for each of the year. Our ultimate outcomes will convey a sound message for the government body and policy maker to rules and regulation in order to keep ecological balance as well as save our environment. We therefore suggest wise management of anthropogenic actions in the catchment of Kushiyara River.

A sequential least squares filter LS developed to estimate the pollution in a multisectional river. The Nash game approach proposed by Ozgliner and Perkins (lB78) is applied. The sections 0.1'0 defined uooording to mouths of larger tributaries. Streetor-Phelps hyperbolic equations model the contents of dissolved oxygen and its demand. The problem is defined as simultaneous minimization of quadratic estimation funct.ionals defined on successive sections. The resulting decentralized filter looks like a cascade of local filters, each of which, besides measurements of its own section, uses those of preceding ones. Thus the filters are informed in advance if pollution occurs upstream. An orthogonal collocation approximation is applied to develop a numerical solution.
